ABOUT PURELY PILATES

Purely Pilates is a contemporary Pilates studio located in Stowmarket, Suffolk. Stowmarket lies just off the A14, between Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich. We run group Reformer classes, small group classes and one-to-one Pilates. Our aim is to motivate and inspire, but always having fun along the way.

Our studio is equipped with 8 Balanced Body Studio Reformers (2 with Towers), A Trapeze Table, Ladder Barrel, CoreAlign, Wunda Chairs, Pilates Arcs and a comprehensive range of small equipment.

We are a Pilates Teacher Training Centre, a host site for Balanced Body Education. We run Pilates teacher training courses for Mat, Reformer, Comprehensive  and Anatomy in 3 Dimensions. Our location is easy to reach by road or by rail and is a welcome alternative to the hassle and expense of large city training venues.

I have over 30 years experience in the health and fitness industry. During this time I have been a fitness instructor, sports therapist and for 5 years the general manager of a busy health and fitness club.

I have been teaching Pilates for over 20 years. My formal training and certification was from the Pilates Institute of London. As a practising Pilates teacher I decided to further enhance my knowledge and teaching skills by completing the Alan Herdman* Comprehensive Pilates teacher training. Although I was already an experienced Pilates teacher, I learned so much and gained immensely through Alan's teaching.

*Alan Herdman is a world-renowned Pilates luminary who first brought Pilates to the UK in 1970.

During 2012, I  joined Balanced Body Education to train as a Pilates Teacher Trainer. As a Balanced Body Educator, I am certified to run Pilates teacher training courses for Mat, Reformer and other Apparatus. I am also certified to run courses for Anatomy in 3 Dimensions.

I am also privileged to teach the Anatomy component of the Alan Herdman comprehensive Pilates course.

Balanced Body is the world’s largest Pilates organisation. My studio is an authorised Balanced Body Training Centre, one of only a few in the UK. I regularly attend workshops and training modules to further advance my own knowledge.

I have been passionate about Pilates since I joined my first class almost 20 years ago and discovered how effective regular practice was in helping me to recover from a whip lash injury. I am looking forward to welcoming clients to my classes and encouraging people of all ages and abilities to move with greater ease and efficiency. I firmly believe Pilates can improve our quality of life by reducing stress, relieving pain and encouraging greater mobility. I particularly enjoy helping clients to know their own movement patterns as I believe that knowing how we move now is fundamental to our understanding of how we can move better in the future.

Health and well-being have always been an important part of my life and in the early 1990s I qualified as an instructor in resistance training and exercise in water whilst living in Adelaide, Australia. This awakened my love for teaching and on my return to the UK I qualified as a teacher of English Literature with PE as my second subject. Whilst I have enjoyed teaching in a number of local high schools, health and well-being have always been a huge interest of mine.  It was this passion which led me to train as a Balanced Body Pilates Instructor.

When not practising Pilates, learning about anatomy or teaching, I love spending time with my family, reading, camping and climbing.

After 20 years of taking part in Pilates classes I am excited to now teach what I love. It's amazing how Pilates can help you move more freely no matter what your starting point is.

For the last 35 years, I've worked in Finance, so I know how your daily work habits can have a detrimental impact on your posture. Pilates can help to counteract that stiffness and make you feel more comfortable in your body.

Outside of Pilates, I'm a dog mum to Bobby, and enjoy walking, running and reading.

For those who live locally, our studio was formerly a well-known toyshop called Simpsons (c. 1913 - 2013). Prior to that, from around 1860 it was a public house called the Vulcan Arms.
